I had the same experience with my 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8. Long story short the fuel pumps are located under the bench seat in the back and my issue specifically was the gasket was damaged at the top of my fuel pump near the locking ring by a rogue pebble. There was a small leak but because gas evaporates so quickly I never saw any puddles, I just smelled the fumes.

another place to look at for gas smell is at rear of right front fender in engine compartment there is a dual line fitting or connector that hooks to the evap solenoid valve we had one where the rubber 2 line connector had deteriorated and disconnected the line from the charcoal canister which let gas fumes escape and also caused a code and display saying gas cap was loose

the most likely culprit is the fuel pump(s) located on the top of the gas tank. these are plastic and over time the plastic degrades and some fuel actually gets out and sits on top of the assemble. its easy to get to to check. remove the rear seat , under that you will fins 2 fairly large plastic caps. pull them out and take a visable inspection of the tops of the fuel pumps. (actually its only one pump and a sender but they look the same).
