Default Keys - yes again

I am the new owner of a 2006 Magnum R/T with 115K miles. The car is in really good condition. Just purchased it from a used dealer and only one key fob was available. The key works great and have not had problems.
As you all know(here it comes) keys can be misplaced or lost. So I would like to have a spare made.
Questions:
1. I have the ID number and info off the current key fob - how do I know if a key purchased online will work?
2. I would hope a locksmith would be able to cut the metal part to make it from the key I have now. Is that correct?
3. If the car has a transponder option how would I know that?

Thanks all!

Default New key How to program new one

You must have 2 keys that are already programmed in order to program a new key with out a trip to the dealer. Many Youtube videos on how to DYI. Simple process.

Default

I bought an '05 RT two years ago that came with only 1 key that was broken & taped back together.
I bought one from a local Lock&Key shop. They had to order the 3rd. one before they got one that would accept programming to the car. It worked for about 2 months and the abruptly stopped working. LockSmith could not make it work again... "communication failure".
Bought another one online. It never would hook-up with the car.
Finally bit the bullet and ordered one from the local dealer. It hooked right up & hasn't given me any problems. Ended up ordering another for a spare. Both have worked flawlessly.
