Default Voltage Regulator...maybe?

Hi all..new member with a problem seeking answers.

Driving to work today and my "battery/charging system" light came on ('06 Magnum, 3.5liter)

Went to O'Reilly's to get system checked: battery reads as good during 4 tests, voltage regulation failed each time).

Left and went to Auto Zone for a 2nd test (just to see if same results came up)...yes, battery good...voltage regulation bad.

Picked up a new alternator to install this weekend... but after some research, finding that voltage regulator is not "in" the alternator like I would assume. Finding it is controlled by the PCM instead.

I know it's hard to pinpoint from my info but is the alternator the likely culprit or is it possibly a fuse or the PCM itself that could be causing my issue?

Thanks in advance!

Based on what I've read it's either a battery, alternator, PCM or a wiring issue. And like you said, the regulation is now controlled by the PCM.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, that's kinda' what I've come up with, too...but can't find a definitive answer.
Battery is 3 yrs old but tests as good.
I hate to throw a new alternator in if it isn't the problem.

This popped up out of nowhere...no recent issues or work done to the car.

I understand. I have an intermittent battery light on my Challenger and the code indicates high voltage. I'm going to change my battery out since it's still the original (9 years old) and hope that fixes it. Hate to do it since it still cranks the car fine.

My battery light seems to be intermittent also.
How did you obtain the code?

Nearly ready to bite the bullet and take it to a shop

I have a device that plugs into the OBD port called BlueDriver. It bluetooths to an app on my phone. It reads all the codes.

I swapped my battery out yesterday and still had the light come on right afterwards but I cleared my codes today, calibrated my Steering Wheel Sensor and so far my battery light has remained off so hoping the battery fixed it. Time will tell.
