Cold Weather Driving Problem

I have been having trouble driving in cold weather. Highway driving the car slowly cools down until it hits cold and the check engine and electrical warning lights come on. When I stop and turn of motor for a few minutes the car warms up and the electrical warning light does not come on when I re-start, but check engine does. Next morning no warning lights until I drive on highway in cold again.
