Key question...
I would like to have another key cut for my 07 r/t, as a back up key, what I have done with other cars is have spare key cut and I hacksaw off
most of the key to cut down on the bulk and put it in my wallet, I would like to know if the black plastic part of the key is required to start the car,are there sensors or
chips in the plastic body? Thanks

Not sure about the 07 Magnum's but my 09 Challenger, the key is only to open the door. You have to use the fob to start the car.

You assume correct any key that will start the car and keep it running with or without the buttons has a chip. On one of our cars we don't have the original keys with the buttons and this one has the chip and when you unlock the door it kicks off the alarm until you put the key in it.
We also bought what is referred to as a "Valet key", which is only good for unlocking the door, just in case we accidently lock the key inside.

Thanks, I will look into the valet key option, all I want is a key that will unlock the door, that I can put in my wallet, my plan is to hide an ignition key in the car in case I lock myself out.

Too weird Both of my keys with the buttons work fine when you use the buttons/ the battery in the remote has power, but if you just unlock the the door with the key by itself the alarm will go off until u put the key in to the ingition and the car starts and the alarms stops. That don't seam right.

actually after talking to a locksmith, your car is doing what it's supposed
to do.
